Rain Crayon Melting - Project 3

Rain Crayon Melt

You will need:
1 canvas
about 7-10 blue crayons
1 cheap hot glue gun (you will have to throw it out)
painters tape
newspaper
a picture of you and/or others

Step 1 - Take a picture of yourself with your friends, significant other, or whoever you want. Print the picture on printer paper and color over the silhouettes with permanent marker. Tape the picture to the back of the canvas and then hold it up to a window so you can see the outline of the picture. Trace the outline directly onto the canvas and then fill it in with permanent marker. Don't throw out the printed picture just yet, you will need it for the next step.

Step 2 - You want to use tape on the canvas as a resist so you don't get crayon all over the picture on the canvas. Place long strips of painters tape over the printed picture that you colored over. You may want to place the tape on your skin first to absorb some oils so that the tape doesn't completely stick to the picture. Cut about 1/4 or 1/2 centimeter away from the border. Then peel the tape off of the picture like a sticker, and place it over the picture on the canvas.

Step 3 - Cover your work space with newspaper because the crayon will drip all over. Then take the wrappers off of the crayons, stick them in your hot glue gun, and SLOWLY squeeze the trigger. As you get used to how your hot glue gun is working, you can go faster at your own pace. I used 7 crayons total for a 12"x16" canvas. When you are finished, slowly take the tape off of your canvas, and you are all done.

* Your hot glue gun will have to be thrown out, so don't buy an expensive one. I got this one at a craft store for about $2 with a coupon

Monogram Crayon Melting - Project 2.5

Rainbow Monogram Crayon Melt

You will need:
1 canvas
2 boxes of 24 pack crayons
1 hot glue gun with a few refills
1 emboss heating tool (or a hairdryer)
painters tape
newspaper

Step 1 - The first thing you want to do is cut out the letter you want using the painters tape. This is quite time consuming and very much a pain in the butt. Next, hot glue the crayons in any order you like to the top of the canvas with the tips facing down. When you are finished, center the tape letter to the canvas, but put it closer to the top by the crayons.

Step 2 - Cover your floor in newspaper! The melted crayon will go flying everywhere, especially if you use a hairdryer on full speed. Hold the canvas at a high angle for long individual drips, and a lower angle for thicker ones. I held up the canvas with crayon boxes at a low angle, so the end result was a bigger stream of colors instead of a bunch of drips. Then take your hairdryer or heating tool and hold it about an inch away from the crayons. It will start melting in about 10-15 seconds.

Step 3 - Once your canvas is filled with the melted crayon, wait about 30 seconds for it to dry. Then peel off your tape. Some of the crayon will make its way under the tape; I'm sure there's a different tape that would work better, but that's all I had.

Monogram Crayon Melting - Project 2

Rainbow Monogram Crayon Melt

You will need:
1 canvas
2 boxes of 24 pack crayons
1 hot glue gun with a few refills
1 emboss heating tool (or a hairdryer)
painters tape
newspaper

For Easter this year, i wanted to make my goddaughter and her sister something special for their playroom. I previously saw the crayon melt projects, so i decided to give it a go.

Then take your hairdryer or heating tool and hold it about an inch away from the crayons. Start near the center of the crayon first, and then focus the heat on the tips of the crayons. This will provide a long drip of crayon. Hold the canvas at a high angle for long individual drips, and a lower angle for thicker ones.

Step 3 - Once your canvas is filled with the melted crayon, wait about 30 seconds for it to dry. Then peel off your tape. Some of the crayon will make its way under the tape; I'm sure there's a different tape that would work better, but that's all i had.

Flower Crayon Melting - Project 1

Flower Crayon Melt

You will need:
1 canvas
2-3 boxes of 24 crayons
1 hot glue gun and a few refill sticks
1 hairdryer
1 bundle of fake flowers
newspaper

My first crayon melting project

This was my first crayon melting project that i made for my mom for her birthday. Let me just say that this was extremely messy, so i urge you to coat your floor with newspaper. Also, I did not have a heating tool yet, so I used a hairdryer on high. Don't hold it too close or the melted crayon will fly everywhere.

Step 1 - I wasn't too sure how to start this project, so i went in blind. The first thing i did was remove the paper from only the green, yellow, and brown crayons. I then broke up crayons, some in halves and others in thirds. I then hot glued them to the canvas.

Step 2 - I held the canvas board up at a small angle with my crayon box and took the hairdryer to it. The crayons almost instantly started melting. I would recommend holding it up at a higher angle for more individual drips. Be very careful! The melted crayon will fly everywhere if you hold the hairdryer too close.

Step 3 - Melt the crayons to about 2/3 of the way down the canvas. Then let it dry for about a minute. Add the flowers and you're all done!
